Candida Prevention – Foods Good and Bad

Everyone loves candy and ice cream. Who doesn’t crave a good chocolate and how can anyone resist Halloween treats? Well, if you suffer from Candida or yeast infection, these are foods for you to avoid like the plague. Candida and yeast thrive on sugar. In fact, they need sugar in order to continue growing and expanding. If you want to eliminate symptoms of overgrowth of Candida and yeast, sugar must be eliminated from your diet.

My child came home with a school project recently. Her task was to go through the refrigerator and cupboard and pick out a few items to see how much sugar was in each food item. I was shocked to see that 9 out of 10 of the food products had some type of sugar in them. And, not just a little bit, up to 40 grams per serving. Think about the food items: cereal, yogurt, pasta, ice cream (of course), and yes, even milk has sugar in it. Add up all of the grams of sugar your child gets in a day and you can imagine the implications.

All refined sugar especially is to be avoided. Other forms of sugar which should be eliminated from your diet include white sugar, brown sugar, molasses and high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup is just a disguise by manufacturers to make you think that there isn’t any sugar in your soft drink. Fruit and fruit juices, while they may be good for you in general, also have a high content of sugar.

Those of you who have a glass or TWO of wine every evening should think twice. In addition, beer itself is even worse, because it is brewed with yeast, increasing your susceptibility to overgrowth. When Candida starts to increase in your body, it increases the production of alcohol, as well. A toxic byproduct of alcohol that is produced is called acetaldehyde. An over-abundance of this is toxicity can lead to walking around in a fog or improper thinking. Candida produces acetaldehyde every day.

There are great foods to eat while eliminating Candida. They generally include natural and unprocessed foods that do not contain any sugar. For example, vegetables … yes, vegetables are a great source of nutrients. The best vegetables are the leafy ones, such as broccoli and asparagus.

We’ve all been taught to reduce our meat consumption. However, on the flip side of the coin is that meat is non-carbohydrate and extremely low, if any, sugar. It is high in protein, which will help sustain ones physical and mental activities throughout the day.

Very high on the good list of foods to eat are grains. Of course, unprocessed grains, such as millet, buckwheat and brown rice are really good sources nutrients, as well.

Candida and yeast infection can easily be avoided by maintaining a healthy diet. This diet should be low in sugar intake. Sugar is one of you your body’s number one enemies.
